A under the lid video review of the vintage Revell / Monogram TOS Battlestar Galactica
scale model kit.

The original kit by Monogram was released shortly after the classic Battestar Galactica television series hit the airwaves on ABC.

This kit was re released in 1997 by Revell / Monogram. It is part of a series of models based on Battlestar.
The other kits included the Cylon Raider, Cylon Base Star and the Colonial Viper models. The Galactica is the more sought after kit of the group today as it is no longer in production
Most of the others have either continued production or have been re introduced by other model kit companies with improvements.

The Galactica kit has suffered some bashing over the years by modeling enthusiasts for it's lack of detail and other inaccuracies.
Upon looking over the parts it's obvious that the molding detail is not on par with some of the modern kits we see today. However, the model does have some nice details and with some attention to detail and some weathering of the paint work, the detail that is present can be further highlighted.
There are only eighteen parts in total that go in the assembly of the model so building is fairly straightforward. The fit of the parts seems very good and they have not warped or turned brittle with their age.
The decal sheet included is showing some signs of aging and I will most likely use modern more accurate replacements.

This kit is still around on the internet at ebay or amazon and others. It is becoming pricey due to its becoming harder and harder to find. You can expect to pay over a hundred dollars and more for an example stilled in it's shrink wrapping. The other kits of the series are going for much less at least for now.

All things to consider if your thinking of getting one. I am looking for mostly plain old fun out of this kit and it's lack of detail is not a deal breaker for me. I am no Batttlestar expert anyway and this kit is as close of a representation of the ship from the show as I need.

I plan on lighting this model with LED's. i will be working in the window ports, engines and landing bays for light. Also it will be fun working with the paint to weather it and bring out the details which the kit does have.
