I get not everyone is as into paleontology, but even so it still hurts deep down to know most people don't truly know what a dinosaur is. Key examples include any pelycosaur like Dimetrodon, marine reptiles like plesiosaurs, pliosaurs and mosasaurs, pterosaurs etc. At least when some people lump them in, they think extinct large reptile = dinosaur, which is understandable off of that surface-level analysis, but I have so little idea as to why anyone in their right mind would think a mammoth or sabre tooth cat is one!
