Wrestlers' Protest Latest: Sports Minister Anurag Thakur urges wrestlers to end their protest

Amidst the wrestlers' ongoing protest against Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over harassment allegations, the Indian Olympic Association has intervened to expedite the resolution. On May 14, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, urged the protesters to end their demonstration and trust in the country's law and order system. Thakur acknowledged that a committee was formed to address their concerns, an ad-hoc committee was established by the Indian Olympic Association to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Wrestling Federation, and trials for athletes had commenced.

The Sports Minister highlighted that the Supreme Court had issued its judgment, the Delhi Police had registered an FIR, and statements were being recorded by the magistrate as part of the ongoing investigation. Thakur appealed to the wrestlers to have faith in the legal processes and bring their protest to an end.

The wrestlers' protest, reignited in April, has gained momentum and support from various parts of the country. The demonstrators are demanding accountability from Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, alleging harassment of women wrestlers, including a minor. An FIR has been filed, and an investigation is underway to address the allegations. Recently, the protest received strong backing from farmers who attempted to join the demonstration in Delhi.

The intervention of the Indian Olympic Association and the Sports Minister's plea reflect the government's commitment to addressing the wrestlers' grievances and ensuring a fair resolution. The ongoing investigations and legal processes aim to provide justice and restore confidence in the sporting community.
