Guy Davis is a Bluesman though and through. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to reviving the traditions of acoustic blues and bringing them to as many people as possible through the material of the great blues masters, African American stories, and his own original songs, stories and performance pieces. His writing and storytelling have been influenced by many who are superb at the art of telling tales from our past but, his source for the trials and tribulations of his ancestors definitely comes from Laura Davis (his one hundred and five year-old grandmother) and the songs of the great Bluesmen.
We who treasure the Blues artists of the early 19th Century are lucky to have Guy Davis and the many others who take this music forward for us.

Insights:
The guitar is in Drop D Tuning D, A, D,F#, A, D (LOW TO HIGH STRINGS) capoed at the 3rd fret in the key of F Major. The first thing to notice is that Guy doesn’t hold back with his singing and fantastic guitar playing, they demand attention with high energy and straight to the point lyrics.
The alternating bass is dampened and in some bars used as a percussive push notably when Guy plays the 6th & 5th string to add more weight to the accompaniment. Another feature (notated with an up arrow) is his first finger of the picking hand sweeping up to play the top strings in one stroke. These and other anomalies are featured in the music notation which unlike the tab gives an accurate vision of the bass and treble finger positions.
