In defense of teenage girls | Katie Emanuel | TEDxYouth@SHC

Описание к видео In defense of teenage girls | Katie Emanuel | TEDxYouth@SHC

In this short and incredibly inspiring talk, high school senior Katie Emanuel makes a case for the power of the teenage girl in society today. Through tangible examples and personal stories, Katie’s words provide a valuable perspective for us all.

Katie Emanuel is senior at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco, California. Katie has always been interested in activism and gender dynamics, but recent years have found her looking more at how her peers interact with each other, and how the world interacts with her peers. Katie has observed a culture that appropriates the contributions of teenage girls while disregarding the source; a society that invalidated passions, diminished esteem, and instilled in these girls a pervasive strain of internalized misogyny. A statement from Katie: “I hope this talk can shed some light on that phenomenon and reveal some way we can stand together to support a demeaned demographic.”

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
