(1 May 2014) JUDE LAW, TERRY JONES REACT TO BOB HOSKINS DEATH
Actors Jude Law and Terry Jones are among the hundreds of fellow artists remembering Bob Hoskins as a funny, brilliant performer.
"I first met Bob when he worked with Sadie, the mother of my kids, and I had, we had just got married actually and we were meant to go on honeymoon and she had just got this wonderful job up in Whidbey and the Isle of Sky called 'Captain Jack' and he was playing Captain Jack. And he would, every weekend would host these massive Sunday lunches, and I remember when my parents would come up, because my little boy had just turned one, you know, everyone gets invited along. We became great pals then, although we weren't working together," said Law.
Luckily for Law, he did get to work with his friend in the thriller "Enemy at the Gates" in 2001.
"He had this huge latex nose on, which he kept sweating through," recalled Law about Hoskins, who played a Russian military advisor in the film. "So in between takes he would be able to push his nose and a squirt of water would come out the top bridge because it was basically a sponge filling up with water. Yeah. It's very sad. He was a brilliant actor and a very sweet man. Great spirit. And he will be much missed."
"Monty Python" star Jones had been pals with Hoskins for years.
He remembered a funny story about the actor.
"Well Bob Hoskins, he once got drunk when going on stage at the Roundhouse and he was pretty far gone by the time he got on stage. He was a great man," he said.
Sadly for Jones, the pair were due to work together soon.
"I wrote '1381' for him. It was a story about the peasant's revolt - or film about the peasant's revolt - and I'm sad that he can't do it now," he noted.
Hoskins is best known for adding the human element to the pioneering live action-animated film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
A statement from his family said 71-year-old Hoskins died in the hospital after a bout of pneumonia. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2012.
