Thanks to my patient for sharing her procedure. She has severe hidradenitis suppurativa, you can see some of the indented scars on her axillae. H.S. is a destructive inflammatory condition that can be very difficult to control. Opening up these pores will allow for normal flow of sebum, oils, and sweat which should lessen the ability of those pores to start the inflammatory cascade that can lead to inflamed tender nodules and eventual pitted scars.
