10. SOUNDBITE (English) Ryan Smart, Executive Director of Florida Springs Council:
"Springs are so important, one, because whenever I go to a spring, it's where you see people recreate. I mean, this is our beaches when you're in the middle of the state. It's such a beautiful place. I love going to springs, and you often see young people, old people, families. But then this is also our drinking water supply, right? So every spring is coming out of the Floridan aquifer. The Floridan aquifer provides the drinking water. If you live (from) Orlando north, you are pulling water out of the Floridan aquifer.”

18. SOUNDBITE (English) Ryan Smart, Executive Director of Florida Springs Council:
“We just have too much pollution going into the ground and too much water coming out of the ground. And when you get that combination, you end up with springs that are no longer blue and vibrant and full of life. They're green, they're full of algae, and you just don't see the kind of ecosystems that had developed for hundreds and hundreds of years here."

“Anywhere where the state can screw up a spring, it's in bad shape. And now, even though we have the legislation that requires it, even though have politicians that like to talk a good game, the numbers are the numbers. And the numbers say that things are just getting worse and worse."
