Blessed Simon of Cascia (also known as Simon Fidati) was one of the most remarkable and controversial Catholic figures of the 14th century. According to The Lives of the Saints by Father Alban Butler, Simon was an Augustinian friar, preacher, theologian, and spiritual writer whose works were widely circulated in late medieval Europe. Müller to have influenced elements of Martin Luther’s theology—a claim that has sparked centuries of debate.

Simon lived an austere life, censured sinners without fear, rejected positions of authority, and preferred solitude, prayer, and study. He founded shelters for fallen women and endangered young girls, combining fierce moral clarity with profound charity.
