Loen Skylift is a gondola lift in Loen in Nordfjord. It runs approximately from sea level at the fjord to the mountain Hoven 1011 meters above sea level, and is a so-called shuttle railway where the two gondolas go up and down alternately. It was opened on 20 May 2017 by Queen Sonja. The facility cost NOK 300 million.
At 60° at most, the course is one of the steepest gondola courses in the world. The average slope is 45°. At most, the gondola goes 170 meters above the ground.
Loen Skylift AS' largest owners are Hotel Alexandra, Garaventa Ag and Stryn municipality. It was budgeted for 55,000 passengers in the first year of operation, by the end of 2017 the line had transported 92,000.
The gondola lift is widely used by BASE jumpers who jump from Hoven. Estimates indicate that close to 10,000 BASE jumps have been completed from Hoven after the Loen Skylift opened in 2017.
The Loen Skylift was used for the world record for the most number of BASE jumps in 24 hours, where Tom Erik Heimen completed 66 jumps in less than 24 hours.
