He smiled at dawn, he sang to sheep,

He turned and said My name—
I think he knew, I think he saw
The part of Me I blamed.
And when he fell, it wasn't rage—
It wasn't wrath or right—
It was the hollow ache of loss
That swallowed up the light.

I wandered then from place to place,
No roots, no fire, no home—
The soil I once had tried to feed
Now cursed Me where I roam.
I see him still in every dawn,
In lambs, in stars, in dew—
And all the world still whispers soft:
"You killed the one who knew."

My brother’s blood is in the field,
It stains My every prayer—
And though the Lord still lets Me live,
He leaves Me in despair.
If He should speak, if He still hears,
