Location and device tracking in Home Assistant

With recent spotlight on private/user data being sold by some well known location tracking services and potential future problem of another brand of trackers, the question is - what options do you have for device, person, car or pet tracking you have.

Home Assistant as open source and privacy oriented local first Smart home solution gives you plenty of option. And it's your choice if you want to keep all of your data locally, if you are prepared to use Home Assistant Companion App or if you are willing to share your location with some of the cloud service providers.
