Alanna Quinn Idris speaks with Anton Savage on the Pat Kenny Show, after a second of her attackers was handed a three-year jail sentence.

Alanna Quinn Idris has said she no longer feels or looks like the person she was before she was attacked in Ballyfermot nearly two years ago.

One of four young men who attacked her the day before New Year's Eve in 2021 has today been handed a three-year jail sentence.

Josh Cummins, of Raheen Drive in Ballyfermot, Dublin, becomes the second person to be sentenced for the attack.

Alanna was just 17 when she and a friend were set upon by a group of teenage boys in what was described in court as a “shocking, egregious and unprovoked attack” in a residential area of Ballyfermot almost two years ago.

During the unprovoked attack, she was punched in the face and suffered catastrophic injuries that led to the loss of her sight in one eye after being struck with the saddle of an E-scooter.

Josh Cummins was just 17 years old at the time.

He pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing harm, violent disorder and of producing a hurley during the fight.

The court accepted that he didn’t hit Alanna but he was culpable by virtue of the fact that he took part in a joint enterprise with the others.

In March, another young man was jailed for four-and-a-half years for his role in the attack.

Another is still before the courts, while a fourth person has yet to be identified.

In her victim impact statement, Alanna said she can no longer look at herself in the mirror without entirely disassociating.

She said she no longer looks or feels like the same person.
