However, it was reigning World Champion Wayne Gardner who leapt into first place, his Rothmans Honda leading title rival Eddie Lawson's Marlboro Yahama into the awesome Eau Rouge. Sarron fought back, forcing his way past Lawson and reeling in the hard-charging Gardner.
