When we see our diverse experiences and identities portrayed authentically on screen, it's empowering and makes us feel like we belong. This is especially important for marginalized communities whose stories are often stereotyped or completely overlooked by mainstream media. But how do we challenge these norms and embrace our differences as sources of strength? How can we transform and challenge these attitudes in today's mainstream culture? Andrea Navedo, a highly acclaimed film and television actress, producer, empowerment advocate, and philanthropist, will wrap up our TEDx event with a powerful message on turning setbacks, otherness, and perceived differences into opportunities for success. Andrea Navedo is a Bronx-born-and-raised American actress best known for her role as Xiomara, a complex and genuine Latina on the hit series "Jane the Virgin," for which she received critical acclaim. She is dedicated to various charities including A Place Called Home in South Central Los Angeles and the Fresh Air Fund in New York City. Navedo has a passion for self-improvement, growth and healing and, through her experiences, seeks to help those who see themselves on the outside looking in.
