Can you freeze busses in Cakewalk? Yes, but if you use aux tracks instead.

Save A LOT of CPU by ditching busses and using aux tracks exclusively. This routing might seem a bit convoluted and slightly advanced at first, but adapting my workflow to suit has saved me a lot of time and procrastination. With a combination of smart folder setups, aux tracks, freezing and archiving, you can substantially reduce your CPU load and continue working without glitches

What is Archive in Cakewalk?
To archive or un-archive a track, click the track's Archive button . Archiving a track removes its data from your computer's memory (RAM), freeing up more memory for other tracks that you may be working on. Archived tracks do not tax your CPU during playback so they can be used to store alternate takes.
