► THE SESSION

Hailing from Dumaguete city on the nearby island of Negros Oriental, The Banda Otso Drumbeaters were an exciting find during our time on Siquijor Island.

A commotion was gathering outside a new store as we were passing through the largest town on the island, also named Siquijor. This gathering of locals, along with a host of percussive instruments set up in the corner called to us to stop and see what was going on.
“Musicians from Dumaguete will be playing in one hour to commemorate this grand opening!” An excited local informed us. (We have witnessed similar grand opening extravaganzas during our time on the islands of Indonesia.)

Sure enough as we returned an hour later, recording equipment in hand, we, alongside the growing crowd of intrigued locals, were treated to a polyphonic rhythmic spectacle showcasing the exciting and intricate percussive talents of Negros Oriental.
