10 Years of Raw Sounds
If there was programme which best represents the work and values of Raw Material, it would be Raw Sounds. Since 2012, through our partnership with the NHS South London and Maudsley Trust, we have delivered a wide selection of music-making courses, from Digital Audio Production, to ‘Mindful Music’ Improvisation, from Guitar Sessions to Spoken Word Rap Performance. These courses enable participants to develop themselves as musicians; but more importantly, they facilitate the meaningful and therapeutic experience of self-expression through word and sound, and of connection to others through musical exchange.
This video, filmed in the summer of last year, captures the essence of Raw Sounds by sharing the voices of those who took part. The programme is fundamentally group-orientated and collaborative, therefore every individual’s presence contributed something unique and special to the experience of the group. As always, it is the community around Raw Material that makes us who we are.
