Is it God's Voice or Mine? (Shema)

I was reading the book of Deuteronomy in the Bible and came across this word that I’d somehow missed: Shema. It’s an old word, a Hebrew word, meaning “to listen, to give your attention to AND to obey.” It’s used in the Bible when Moses is instructing the Israelites before they’re about to cross the Jordan. What did obedience look like for them then? What doe sit look like for us now?
