UK military joins largest Nato exercise to counter Russian threat

Hundreds of army vehicles checked for hidden explosives were loaded on to a cargo vessel bound for Germany as part of a Nato rehearsal for war against Russia.

As it emerged that Russia has lost more than 3,000 tanks during its invasion of Ukraine — the equivalent of its entire pre-war active inventory — British Army armoured vehicles, trucks, tractors, support vehicles and light guns were on the move in Hampshire.

British soldiers at the military sea mounting centre in Marchwood said they were taking part in the largest exercise in their lifetimes, Steadfast Defender 2024, which will see 90,000 troops from the alliance carry out drills until May.
