Autechre - Crystel - Roland R8 S1 hardware only cover/recreation

A lot of people were asking for some Autechre on this channel. The big problem is IT'S REALLY HARD. Especially if you don't have Max/MSP and want to do things DAWless with older hardware...

However.... Autechre did a big WATMM Q&A session a few years back, so we know that a lot of their early work was sequenced with the Roland R8 as featured here.

Captured and tested with MIDI-OX, check the manual to see about getting it onto the R8

Apologies for the fuzzy zoomed-in screen, I was trying to show the manual tempo change from 120bpm down to 60bpm. The quadraverb delay stays at 375ms throughout, so when you slow it down it goes from dotted eighth notes to dotted quarter notes, giving that doubling-up effect on the drums.

The S1 is awesome too (yes, I caved to YT peer pressure). For this video, I've left it in monophonic mode to try and give it some of those early Roland slidey vibes.
