Tongariro Alpine Crossing (Self-Guided)

On 21 September 2018, 7 adults decided to attempt Tongariro Alpine Crossing during the end of winter season but early of spring season. The days before hiking, they thought they might need proper gear such as axes and crampons so they did some research on where to rent those and they did find a shop. They also checked on the site for transportation but unfortunately there was no bus shuttle available during the period (it was not the peak season yet). Hence, they had to go with the plan B which was 2 of them gotta drive their cars and each had to park the car at car park A (Mangatepopo) and B respectively so that they could complete their journey from point A to point B (Ketetahi)

On the morning of the hiking day, they went to the gear rental shop to rent the proper equipments. However, they were told that they did not have to bring axes and crampons up as the snows were starting to melt and they believed the salespersons so they didn't hire any in the end (which they totally regretted for not having the gears when they were up there).

Anyways, all of them managed to complete the whole journey of 22km in 8 hours+ It was a day with very strong wind and thick snow. They went without guide but luckily there were tourists around and guides too so they just kinda follow the crowd. It was one of a hell ride but they were proud for this achievement. They were able to see the frozen blue lake after the descent of red crater, which you won't see it in summer (of course).

They later suffered in the aftermath of the crossing - crazy super sore muscles.
