In 1972, writer Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) becomes entranced by a photograph of Elise McKenna (Jane Seymour), a turn-of-the-century stage entertainer, while remaining at the Terrific Inn in Mackinac Island, Michigan. As Richard's fixation develops, he gains from a companion that time travel may really be conceivable through spellbinding. Richard goes so as to meet Elise, and the two seem bound to be together.
