Flight 370 departed Kuala Lumpur at 00:41 Malaysian time (UTC+8) on 8 March 2014, and was scheduled to arrive in the Chinese capital at 06:30 the same day. The Subang Air Traffic Control Center reported that contact with the aircraft was lost at 02:40, and the Vietnamese Navy confirmed that the aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Thailand.[4]

The pieces detected by the Chinese satellite were 13 metres by 18 metres, 14 metres by 19 metres, and 22 metres by 24 metres, and were spread over a radius of 20 kilometres. The area monitored is a major sea lane, and there is a lot of debris
