Today we have Dr. Aniketh Venkataram, eminent cosmetic plastic surgeon at the Venkat Center for Aesthetic Health in Banashankari, Bengaluru speaking about brow lifts. He starts by asking the viewers whether they feel like they have a low brow. Or it could be because of old age where the brow could have come lower, and which were previously higher.
Dr. Aniketh starts by telling us that eyebrows naturally have an arch. The inner two-thirds are inclined in an upward direction and the outer one-thirds is inclined downwards. Some people have flat eyebrows, that may be because of genetics or because of old age. The drooping eyebrow may bring about an appearance of being aged and tired. There is also a chance of a droopy eyebrow affecting vision and, in some cases, people feel like they cannot open their eyes fully.
Next, Dr. Aniketh goes on to explain the options available to improve the arch of the eyebrows. There are lots of options, both surgical and non-surgical options. There are two non-surgical options, a chemical brow lift and a thread lift. He defines a chemical brow lift as using Botox to lift the eyebrows. So the Botox is injected into the inner part of the muscle between the eyebrows. Once the Botox is injected into the frontalis muscle, which holds up the eyebrows, the inner part of the muscle relaxes and comes down, giving the outer portion of the eyebrow a lifted appearance. A Botox eyebrow lift is good for people in their thirties, and is for people who want just a slight lift in their eyebrows. Moving on, Dr. Aniketh then explains the procedure related to a thread lift, in which small holes are made on the forehead and a thread is used to lift the eye brows. He says that even though the results of a thread lift are amazing, they do not last long, typically from six months to one year, and meant for people in their forties.
In the next part of the video, Dr. Aniketh explains the surgical methods of lifting eyebrows. Even in this case there are two options, the first, blepharoplasty and a surgical brow lift. When it comes to blepharoplasty, while conducting the surgical procedure, with the help of the same cut on the upper eyelid, to make a cut underneath the brow and the brow is lifted and supported by stitches. This is actually advantageous as since blepharoplasty is being done, people can combine this with a brow lift. The final option to lift droopy eyebrows is surgically lifting the eyebrows.
Dr. Aniketh states that in the past, there would be an incision made across the top part of the forehead, the skin would be lifted, excess skin would be removed and the incision would be stitched up. This is disadvantageous mainly because a large scar would be visible making its way all across the forehead. The situation has evolved in current times and the doctor states that in the present time small holes about three millimetres are made at the top of the forehead, a thread is inserted and the eyebrows are lifted and external stitches are added to create a haemostatic net. The external stiches will be removed in after two days. There may be a few dots on the forehead but this fades away quickly. The results of this surgery are remarkable.
In the subsequent section of the video Dr. Aniketh speaks about the surgery in relation to it being done either under general or local anaesthesia. The surgery is a day care procedure and the patient can go home the same day. The patient will start to feel good a day after the surgery, stiches removed after two days, the dots on the face fade away in two weeks, and the patient could start working on a laptop in three to four days. For people not to notice whether the patient has had a surgical brow lift, it takes about two weeks.
In the concluding part of the video Dr. Aniketh compares surgical and non-surgical methods for an eyebrow lift procedure. The non-surgical procedures are suitable for a younger demographic, and, in contrast the surgical procedure is more appropriate for an older demographic.
