Описание к видео Meditation with Paul Brunton: An unusual experience!

The narration for this video was done by Dr. Ashish Seth, a contemporary student of PB's teachings.

------------------------------

We know very little about PB’s secretary other than what he has shared in this accounting of his meditation experience. From what is mentioned, it is likely that the events took place during PB’s third visit to India, beginning in 1939 and extended due to World War II until 1945.
Many other spiritual seekers who had contact with PB had similarly profound meditation experiences. These are recorded in the unpublished materials of Paul Brunton in a file that he created titled “Meditations with PB”.

These are available (in English) on the PB Archive website:
https://www.pbarchives.org/archive/do...

The following excerpts from his American and European students give a sense of the material in this volume and of the impact that meditating with PB had on them:

“It was as if I were a bottomless well and a feeling of peace sank slowly through me. I was conscious of outside noises and yet I did not hear them; it was as if they belonged to another world. The only recurring thought was peace, peace, peace.”

“I had an almost immediate realisation of the Presence; not, however, in the manner usually experienced, i.e., as penetrating and melting Bliss suffusion flooding all my being, but in a kind of pervading strength and peace and much confidence, with a sense of security. I realized what seemed like a broad, quietly powerful waves steadily pouring out from you and through me…”

“The meditation with you has been so helpful. I am increasingly conscious of an inner light which calms my spirit when I look within, and am confident now that I have been in touch with you that I will make progress on the path.”

The secretary also speaks of what he felt was unfair criticism of PB. This is another common theme in the “Notebooks” where PB speaks frequently about how his work drew upon him critical and often malicious comments. He speaks both about his own experiences of being criticized as well as to give advice on how to give and receive criticism. For example:

“So long as my views pleased those who read my earlier writings, the latter were admired and I was praised. Now that our views clash, my writings are criticized, and my character is vilified.”

"’Do not descend to the plane of malign critics and ignorant traducers’, is the injunction I have constantly given myself when faced by the attacks of those who misunderstand my nature and mishandle my ideas.”

“He will study the writings or listen to the criticisms of those who reject his intellectual position, attack his philosophical world-view, and refute his mystical beliefs.”

(Excerpted from Volume 8 of the “Notebooks” titled “Reflections on My Life and Writings” in the chapter titled “The Literary Work”).

Finally, PB gives us very good advice on how to offer and receive criticism in volume 9 of the Notebooks, titled “Human Experience,” in the chapter titled “Spiritual Refinement”:

“To offer someone constructive criticism and to avoid its being taken as a reproof, one should phrase the sentences carefully as if making a helpful suggestion and not as if making an attack. “

“The aspirant who resents being told that there is room to improve himself in a particular way, is unfit to be a disciple. If he takes a constructive helpfully meant criticism in such a way, what is the use of saying that he wants to lift himself to a higher plane.”

Here as always, we see how PB’s personal experiences and the lessons he learned from them inform his writings and spiritual knowledge.
