Passo Gardena is a beautiful drive from Alta Badia between Gruppo di Sella and Gruppo di Cir with Sassolungo rising in front once you arrive at the top. On the other hand, it is a ski area which are for hikers not necessarily the greatest place to be in summer.
Well, whatever, we chose to take the cable cars Plans-Frara from Colfosco to Passo Gardena instead of going up curve by curve with the car - and it is a rather convenient way to start.

From Rifugio Jimmi the way leads up to Forcella Cir with Sella and Sassolungo always being around and it is from pretty much the first step a beautiful hike - and quite obviously a famous one nowadays. At Forcella Cir there is the other way up nicely coming into view on the left which is as beautiful, but with a few more meters in altitude - from Selva through Val Chedul. On the right the path leads on towards Crespeina.
Once arrived at Crespeina saddle, the view opens to the high plateau of Crespeina - surprisingly green, but still an oddly non-terrestrial landscape. Parco Naturale Puez-Odles is the beautiful scenary in the background with Lago di Crespeina in the foreground - a great place for a break to relax.
Beyond the Crespeina plateau the view changes to a more Dolomites type - not a plateau so much anymore, but deep valleys like Vallungo and steep slopes. Reaching Forcella Ciampei, the view opens again on Sella - first time since Forcella Cir on this hike - and the steep way back down.

Because of the heat we decided against adding Rifugio Puez to the hike - next time certainly. There is nice places to get drink and food at the beginning (Rifugio Jimmi) and at the end of the hike (Rifugio Edelweiss), so it is important to take enough water and food with you.

Please, only go to the mountains well equipped - especially to the Dolomites. And, please, respect no fly zones - Parco Naturale Puez-Odles is like all natural and national parks in Italy such a no fly zone (the area around Col Alto, Corvara, is a restricted fly zone - check D-Flight for details).
