Описание к видео The S.S. Yongala Wreck Dive (How I see it) - 2021

Welcome to the Steam Ship Yongala, a worldwide known and probably the best wreck dive in the world. Join me for a unique view of this unbelievable underwater oasis, let me show you how I see it.

The SS Yongala sadly sank on it's way to Townsville during a cyclone in 1911.

No survivors were to be found and the steamship resting place remained unknown for decades... until the beginning of WWII.

Yongala was a luxury passenger ship built in England in 1903, it was named after a local Aboriginal word for “broad water”. The old mechanical marvel is around 110 meters long and could reach speeds of 15-16 knots (30 km/h).

Unfortunately that day on March 14th 1911, due to communications problems and a lack of wireless equipment among others, 122 people lost theirs lives (73 crew + 49 passengers). It goes without saying, this terrible incident will be remembered as long as humans live.

Later on, in October 22th 2003, a women (censored name) drowned during her honeymoon. Reports unfortunately confirmed that she was not a very experienced scuba diver and presented complications during the dive.

The SS Yongala remains in the bottom of the ocean floor at 30 meters below the surface level (coordenates: Latitude: -19° 18' 16.20" S. Longitude: 147° 37' 18.59" E). The possitive side of all this is the absolute beauty and delicate balance this wreck sustains.

Nowadays it's an oasis for marine wildlife, a place where sharks, rays, eels, whales, octopi and many other fish species live their lives as a part of this "new" and renewed site where life can overcome the greatest tragedies. Life will find a path, will emerge even from this kind of events.

A tragedy for humans can be a milestone; a sanctuary for nature. Imagine if we decided to give nature a hand ON PURPOSE istead of just letting it be "something that happened". Let's make it happen... why not?

Music produced by Alejandro Rivas.
Filmed in Queensland, Australia.
