10 places you should never swim
Like and subscribe right now, or this spider will crawl on your face when you’re sleeping.
You can probably come up with loads of places that are perfect for swimming such as the
beach, pools, inflatable’s and so much more. But today we will be looking into 10 places you
should never swim, under no circumstances, ever, swim. So, keep watching till the very end to
find out more about these strange places.
10) Blue lagoon
The Blue Lagoon in Buxton, Derbyshire, has a ph level of 11.3, which probably might not mean
much to you unless you know a bit of a thing about science. Well, the fact that bleach has a ph
level of 12.6 should be a huge red flag. Besides the fact that it is a body of water that’s closer
to being bleach than it is to something that would flow out of a tap, it has a stunning blue color
due to caustic chemicals that are present in the surrounding stones. Despite signs that warn
people of the danger, people could not help themselves from taking a dip in its beautiful
waters. It got so bad it had to be dyed black to try to discourage people from swimming inside
it. The lagoon is also home to things such as abandoned cars, dead animals, and human
waste. So yes, dying it black was a good decision.
9) Hoover dam
First off, you should probably know better than to go swimming in any dams. To begin with, swimming at places
like the Hoover Dam is actually a jail able offense, so your swim could end up with you getting arrested. But the
more grave reason is that there are super strong currents because it isn’t a normal body of water. It’s a body of
water that people made to make electricity. Does that sound like a safe place to swim to you? Some time ago, a
Welsh tourist by the name of Arron Hughes, was arrested for swimming across the Hoover Dam. Authorities said
he was the only person they knew of that survived such a swim, as others have been sucked into its deep
depths.
8) The Amazon Basin
There are loads of reasons you shouldn’t go swimming in the Amazon Basin. There you can
find everything from anacondas, which can stay underwater for ten minutes, to red-bellied
Piranhas, which can tear you to shreds. Then you’ve got electric eels, which can shock you
with six hundred volts, which, for comparison, is five times stronger than what you get from
your standard wall socket. While you’ve probably heard of all these creatures, you might not
have heard of Candiru. These are tiny fish that can swim into your bodies, which sounds far
from pleasant. How many more reasons do we need to give for you to never want to set foot
near this place?
7) Samaesan hole
The Samaesan Hole has been referred to as a “black silty hole of death.” It is the deepest
diving region in the Gulf of Thailand and is two hundred and eighty feet deep. If you really wish
to dive into this “black silty hole of death” you’re going to have to fight against strong currents,
oil tankers passing through, poor visibility, and Barracuda. The US Navy also used to utilize
the area as an ammunition dump, so there’s always the possibility of bumping into the wrong
thing and just ending up blowing yourself into pieces.
6) The Ganges River
If you are ever in India looking for a place to swim, it would be best if you avoided the Ganges
River. The Ganges has become so polluted as a result of India’s rapid industrialization, that
over six hundred kilometers of it are considered as ‘ecological dead zones’ where life cannot
sustain itself. Human and industrial waste is pumped into the river at an alarming rate. In
certain areas, the river has more than 70 times the safe limit of toxic chemicals and 3000 times
the safe amount of fecal matter. The Ganges is not only home to a massive amount of
industrial pollution but is also the final resting place for about forty thousand cremated bodies
each year. So you’d basically be swimming in a sort of sludge made partly out of dead people.
Overall, research confirms this causes a greater rate of cancer and gastrointestinal disease in
people that live by the river. The most unfortunate thing is that, since the river is religiously
sacred, people don’t pay heed to the warnings as they believe that swimming in it cleanses
themselves of their past sins.
