During the April 18th City Council meeting, Matt Wyatt, former chairman of the Arts & Culture Commission for the City of Rochester, was presented with a Golden Gavel for his years of dedicated service.

The award was presented by current chairperson Palana Belkin, who praised Wyatt for numerous accomplishments during his tenure, including the establishment of the Rochester Arts Awards, co-founding the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, and the installation of several public art murals and sculptures throughout the city.

In his remarks to Council, Wyatt dedicated the recognition to his daughter Ava (12), stating that he wanted to show her the value of public service and its potential to create great opportunities, both personally and professionally.

The plaque accompanying the Gavel reads, “For the years served as the Arts and Culture Commission chairman. Your tireless dedication to the arts community in Rochester is unparalleled. Your continuous contributions to the success of the Arts and Culture Commission has built a solid road for decades in the future. And for that, we honor you.”

On behalf of the Commission, Belkin extended thanks to Wyatt for his outstanding service to the arts community, adding that his contributions will continue to shape the future of Rochester for years to come.
