To Swap or Not? Using Swap Space in Modern Computers

Описание к видео To Swap or Not? Using Swap Space in Modern Computers

Of all the questions I get asked regarding Linux, those about swap space occur more frequently than most. To swap or not summarises it.

Is it necessary to even bother with swap?

Should I use a partition or a file?

How big should the partition or file be?

The answer, unfortunately, is usually 'it depends'.

Swap is essential for hibernation but its usefulness in situations where a large amount of physical RAM is installed is less clear-cut.

This video runs through some of the most common reasons for creating a swap space and attempts to navigate through the various recommendations regarding how big and of what type of swap should be created.

Hope you enjoy the video. Again, it's Old School. Ramble On!
