I read it pretty much daily on AB or somewhere else:

"I don't want an Avic sling, they die so often"

Whenever I read that, I get kinda sad that people are so afraid about raising them. When I started the hobby, Avics were one of the first ones that I got in my 2nd delivery. Since I've only ever lost 2 slings out of 8 species of the genus I own - with 15 slings currently I own - it really proves to me that it's a myth and nothing more to call it "SADS", or to say "high moisture - they thrive on it". Avics ARE mostly coming from true rainforests, but that doesn't means you have to "drown" them in moisture/humidity!

Facts (my experience):
too much humidity + too few ventilation = dead Avic sling!
too few humidity + too much ventilation = likely dead Avic sling, too!
misting pretty much only annoys your T
misting only raises ambient humidity for a very short time, depending on ventilation
Avic slings require only a tiny tad more attention when raising them - it's easy!
KK (KritterKeepers) are not a good choice for housing them (no matter if sling/adult) since too much moisture escapes through the lids ventilation ribs and slings will easily escape through them depending on size
enclosures with mesh vents work great (Avics seemingly don't try to nom on those ever)
from 1.5" and up, waterbottle caps as waterdishes worked great for me + misting inside of lid every 4-5 days
for adults big waterdish = higher humidity due to evaporation of water
IMPORTANT: Moisture is NOT = humidity! Humidity is the amount of water in the ambient air. Moisture is amount of water within substrate for example!
Stagnant, humid air WILL kill your Avic sling within days!

"YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY!" - keep in mind!

All of this is my personal experience and opinion. While there are quite some people who will agree to what I say in this video, there will be probably quite some who won't. However, with the correct care-regimen, you won't lose an Avic sling unless it's one of those that's simply "not meant to survive" - no matter how good you cared for it! It happens!

Don't get discouraged, try again! Change your care regimen and see what works for you and your T's. In general, these are as easy to raise as any other species.

All those that I got as 2i or 3i are beautiful juvies now...which pretty much proves my point!
