The Business Person of the Year Award is with great pride presented to Eva Castillo, a leader whose profound impact resonates through both the corridors of Hope Haven, now a division of Imagine the Possibilities, and the broader Southeast Iowa community. For over two decades, Eva has embodied the principles of growth, leadership, achievement, and civic engagement, which this award seeks to recognize.
In her role as Director of Services, Eva has been instrumental in orchestrating substantial growth within the agency. She has pioneered transformative changes, including transitioning the organization away from being a 14c provider. Under her guidance, Hope Haven launched the innovative Individual Placement and Support program, which assists individuals with severe mental health diagnoses in securing employment, thereby fostering their integration into society and breaking down longstanding employment barriers.
Eva's leadership extends into numerous civic roles, demonstrating her commitment to the community. She serves as Chair of the Government Relations Committee within the Greater Burlington Chamber of Commerce and is a dedicated Chamber Ambassador. Her expertise and dedication have also been recognized at the state level, with appointments to the State Rehabilitation Council by the Governor of Iowa, where she also serves as chair.
Furthermore, Eva holds the position of treasurer on the Iowa APSE board, demonstrating her financial acumen and dedication to advocacy for employment services. Her community involvement is extensive, including leadership roles with the Burlington Noon Lions and the Mississippi Valley Disability Access board, and volunteering for high-impact events like RAGBRAI.
Eva Castillo’s strategic vision, combined with her tireless advocacy for education and inclusivity, has not only elevated her organization but has also set new standards within the industry. Her commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and growth has significantly enhanced the community's quality of life.
