Medley: Godfather Theme/Those Were The Days COVER

Welcome to my Back Porch! It’s a series of performance videos of songs I like to sing, mostly classics from the 1960s to 80s, and a few originals. I release one each Wednesday and Saturday.

I wanted to play some music closer to what Greek musicians would perform on the bouzouki (the Greek name for a family of instruments common to many cultures all across western Asia, including Xinjiang, western China). So I chose a song composed by a Hungarian composer (can’t begin to pronounce his name, nor the title he used), but made famous by an Italian-American film director – and a song composed in Russia (no doubt performed on balalaikas), with lyrics by an American folk singer, and made famous by an English chanteuse. And I played them on an instrument re-imagined by Irish luthiers, but designed and manufactured in China! Whew! Does this qualify as somehow authentic? Hmm.
