The Digital Divide: How does it affect Rural Canada?

Описание к видео The Digital Divide: How does it affect Rural Canada?

The world is in the midst of a digital revolution, with the International Data Corporation predicting that over 60% of the global GDP will be based on technology and network infrastructure by 2022. Although this will help with growth in all sectors, many Canadian communities and businesses don’t have access to reliable internet connection to leverage the technological leap. In Canada, 30% of the economy is represented by rural and remote communities. Meanwhile, only 46% of rural households have access to high-speed internet, creating barriers in services such as e-learning, e-health, and staying connected.

These are the outcomes of the rural digital divide in Canada.

CENGN funds innovative projects across Northern and Rural Ontario to provide solutions that improve connectivity and close the digital divide between remote communities and urban centres in Canada. The CENGN Residential Broadband Program offers flexible, lower-cost, higher-performance broadband access to residences within Rural Ontario communities.
