Philadelphia is well-known for its long line of lyricists. Whether Bahamadia, The Legendary Roots Crew, Rocafella’s Beanie Sigel, or more recently Meek Mill. The complexity of the wordplay actually takes passenger seat to the tone that displays the hunger and urgency of the gritty city.
Leroy Maddox Jr, publicly known as G-HOLY displays this native ability and delivery, with a twist. It’s like Pusha T’s bravado, with an undertone of Nelson Mandela. This is on full display on tracks like “DreemTeam, Pt. 1” from his debut “EP” ‘FREELOVE’. Ferociously spittin’ “Your mouth move about me, I’ll put ya foot inside…..that fence ain’t stable, you better pick a side” and few bars later rapping “I’m law of attraction in action, God, it’s no secret/Here’s the answer, I don’t practice then I don’t preach it”.

A true 90’s baby born in 1985, G-HOLY is never shy about growing up in the true “crack era” of Philadelphia. This is where he would start his Hip-Hop journey. Influenced by local independent acts, he wrote his 1st full rap song at 8 yrs young, detailing life in his 14-story North Philadephia housing project building and a home broken by drug addiction. Already growing up without a Father, his mother would abandon him that same year, leaving a young HOLY with his grandmother in the Germantown section of the city. After countless fights, suspensions and truancy issues at Clarence E. Pickett Middle School, G-HOLY was labeled a juvenile delinquent by staff, almost landing in special ed for behavior alone. Simultaneously attending advanced classes in a mentally gifted program for scoring one of the regions highest I.Q’s.
This juxtaposition is still exhibited, and may be the fabric of the G-HOLY persona. The vegan rapper is just as spiritual sound as a worldly bound. Matthew 6:24 King James Version states “No man can serve two masters”. HOLY serves neither, hence “The God G-HOLY”.

“The God” has released two EP’s (FREELOVE & B4 I Live 4 U) and a “DREEMTEAM freestyle series” on Instagram garnering thousands of views. However, G does not limit his talents to his own musical endeavors. Under former moniker “Prime City”, the Philadelphia Hip Hop Award nominee directed and produced Hip-Hop TV show “Heart Of The City” with his now incarcerated partner CEO Cue, showcasing the city’s established and upcoming talent. For the last few years, he’s headed the Elite Klass collective along with CEO Kotta Man and Heavyweight boxing champion Bryant Jennings, featured on the Netflix documentary “The Game Changers”. He hosts and produces “DREEMTEAM Manifest”, a podcast of sorts, giving short Ted Talk style lectures themed in esoteric and occult topics. Also lending his music video directing and digital graphic prowess to other artists. Most recently for L Prezzy’s El Chapo album, seen on ThisIs50.com with a HOLY-directed music video for his single “Savage Life”.

With a clever marketing strategy for the release of his upcoming project ‘Dreem | Awake’, G-HOLY is gearing up to make his musical follow-up to 2018’s ‘B4 I Live 4 U’. Dreem | Awake merchandise (unisex dad hats and t-shirts) went on sale through the Official DREEMTEAM Etsy Store in March of this year. It was initially presented as a limited clothing endeavor. It wasn’t until July that G-HOLY would show his hand and reveal this was the name of his forthcoming album via Instagram story post. Dreem | Awake is slated for a November 2020 release with no specific date announced as this is being written.
