““The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.””

DAILY BREAD:

Introduction: When God’s Calling Feels Delayed.
Moses knew he belonged to God’s people, but he acted on his own strength instead of trusting God’s timing. What followed looked like failure and exile. Yet God was still shaping Moses, even in the quiet and hidden years.

Lesson One: Acting Without God’s Timing Leads to Trouble.

What do the verses mean?
Moses tried to deliver his people by his own power. Instead of being accepted, he was rejected and feared for his life. His question in verse 14 shows that God had not yet placed Moses in a position of authority.

Why it matters:
Good intentions are not enough if we move ahead of God. When we rush God’s plan, we often create problems instead of solutions.

How to live this out:
• Wait for God’s direction before acting.
• Ask God to guide both your heart and your timing.
• Trust that God’s plan unfolds step by step.

Lesson Two: God Uses the Waiting Season to Prepare Us.

What do the verses mean?
In Midian, Moses became a shepherd, protected the weak, and built a family. These years were not wasted. God was shaping Moses’ character before using him in a powerful way.

Why it matters:
Seasons of waiting are not punishment. They are preparation. God often develops humility, patience, and trust before He brings us into greater responsibility.

How to live this out:
• Be faithful where God has placed you now.
• Don’t despise quiet or slow seasons.
• Believe God is working, even when life feels ordinary.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to trust Your timing and not rush ahead of You. Teach me to be patient in seasons of waiting and faithful in small things. Shape my heart so I am ready for what You have planned. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
