As the UK’s leading trade organisation for producers and composers of media music, PCAM is dedicated to upholding professional standards and helping professional music creators working as freelancers or within the framework of small business enterprises to develop and sustain a viable career.

To this end, PCAM has negotiated a UK industry-standard contract as well as approved guidelines covering best practice, licensing, budgeting and fee structures for use in composing music for advertising and other audio-visual applications.


In recent years it has become increasingly apparent that many young composers entering the industry, as well as more established composers working without professional representation, lack administrative skills and legal/technical knowledge (for example, in areas such as copyright and contract law).

This puts them at a disadvantage when negotiating terms, fees and contracts and has led to an increase in exploitative practices that both threatens their livelihoods and undermines the wider industry.
In an attempt to address this problem, PCAM has developed detailed plans to create and deliver a modular online series of short films intended to educate and empower composers of media music: the PCAM Education Programme.
