Route & Itinerary🚗📍🌊🌄💞

1. Bangalore → Chitradurga / Tumkur

Take NH 48 / highway out of Bangalore via Tumkur, Chitradurga → head toward Hubli / Dharwad. This is a common starting stretch.

Pitstop: Chitradurga Fort is a great place to stretch legs.



2. Chitradurga → Hubli → Dharwad

Continue on NH48 toward Hubli, then to Dharwad.

Dharwad is a good overnight stop (depending on how early you leave).



3. Dharwad → Ramnagar → Anmod Ghat → Into Goa

From Dharwad, you can go via Ramnagar, then through the Anmod Ghat stretch to enter Goa via NH 748.

This route is quite scenic — forested ghats, winding roads.

Note: NH 748 is the road that connects Karnataka to Goa via Anmod.



4. Alternate / Coastal Detour: Dharwad → Karwar → Goa

Instead of going directly via Anmod, you can divert via Karwar on the coast. According to some sources, route via Karwar involves passing through Sirsi / Gokarna area.

Dharwad → Karwar distance: ~159 km.

Karwar is a peaceful coastal town — good place to spend some time (beach, warship museum, coastal food).

Then from Karwar, continue north into Goa via NH66.



Key Stops & Attractions

Chitradurga Fort — historic fort, great views.

Anshi / Dandeli area — if you take a slight detour, Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary (rafting, forest) is possible.

Anmod Ghat — forested ghats, scenic, especially in monsoon.

Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary / Mollem National Park — on the Goa side (if you’re okay with trekking or wildlife)

Dudhsagar Falls — can be accessed from the ghat route / Anmod side (especially during monsoon)

Karwar — beaches, Warship Museum, coastal tranquillity.


Pros and Challenges / Things to Be Careful About

Pros:

Very scenic route: combination of ghats + coastal roads.

Less “on-the-beaten-path” compared to more typical Goa routes; more nature in between.

Opportunity to explore Karwar / coastal Karnataka, not just Goa.


Challenges:

Some patches of road may be narrow and winding, especially in the ghats.

According to travelers, there are some bad patches / potholes in the stretch from Dharwad → Anmod / Ramnagar.
