Описание к видео He Wrapped His Own Legs, Lost a Hand — Then Walked 3 Miles to Fight Again

Why one Gurkha rifleman stayed in his trench — after losing a hand and an eye.
In the early hours of May 13th, 1945, deep in the Burmese jungle near Taungdaw, a Japanese assault rolled toward a small forward position held by three Gurkha soldiers.
Grenades came first.
Then the charge.

Rifleman Lachhiman Gurung threw two grenades back into the darkness.
The third exploded in his hand.

His fingers were gone.
His arm shattered.
His right eye blinded.
His trench mates wounded and unable to fight.

But Gurung did not withdraw.

Using his left hand, he picked up his Lee-Enfield rifle and held the position alone for more than four hours — firing, reloading, and stopping repeated attacks by a force estimated at two hundred men.
When the assault finally broke at dawn, the line still held.

This is the story of a soldier who refused to abandon his post,
of discipline stronger than pain,
and of a single trench that did not fall — because the man inside it chose to stand.

Sometimes history is decided not by movement or momentum,
but by the decision to stay.
