Welcome to Holly Jukebox 2020!

Number 10 on this year's Jukebox and we're having a prog moment... it's Greg Lake's 'The Sage' 🙂 It's for Richard Jones' friend Michael!

I've learnt a few Greg Lake songs over the years, and I just love the chords he uses, and the dreamy melodies he creates. This tune is actually something of a classical guitar piece in its original form, and whilst I'd love to learn the full version someday, I've simplified this one right down (takes a long time to learn stuff like that!). I've focussed more on the beautiful words here, and tried to replicate the unusual chord sounds and free timing. Also added some tapped harmonics as I thought they suited the song. Phew!

For the guitarists - I'm playing this in standard tuning with capo on 2nd fret and using versions of the chords Am, E, Dm and F (do check out Greg's absolutely killer original version of this tune though, it's incredible)

WHAT'S HOLLY JUKEBOX?
Now somewhat of a Christmas tradition in my house, the Holly Jukebox Challenge is a self-imposed charity song marathon between 1st - 25th December.

The deal: In exchange for a donation to York Mind, I take song requests from my family & friends & supporters in the month leading up to the challenge, then upload a request every day in December to my YouTube channel (   / hollytaymar  ) and Facebook & Instagram (@hollytaymar)

The reason I do this is to:

1. Keep me out of mischief in the big bad Winter

2. Spread some festive cheer and hopefully a few laughs as I try and get to grips with all manner of requests

3. Raise some much needed cash for awesome local charity York Mind!

I think we can all agree that 2020 has tried it's best to batter our collective mental (and physical) health, and I'm super-excited to kick this year where it hurts by doing something good and raising as much as I can to help folks who are really struggling.
