Greater Manchester is reeling from a day of devastating floods. A major incident was declared on New Year's Day as scores of homes were evacuated and hundreds of people rescued from a hotel. It was stood down on Thursday.

Downpours which began on New Year's Eve left huge swathes of Greater Manchester under water. Sixteen flood warnings remained in force around Greater Manchester earlier this morning (January 2), though all but one in Wigan have since been lifted.
