Do you have trouble keeping your bar close and keeping your bar path vertical? It’s easy to see in this video why it’s necessary to utilize a vertical hip drive but to execute requires knowledge of basic #Snatch fundamentals. How you FINISH is a product of everything that happens from your start (bar leaves the ground) to your hip so we will start at the bottom!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
First, we want a tight core in the initial lift. If our posture is poor off the ground then the finish will also be poor. We need to start with our chest up and our shoulders out over the bar. Don’t forget to keep your weight balanced over the middle of the foot!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Now that we have the setup down let’s talk about how to achieve the power position that allows us to drive vertically. From the ground, we need to push with the legs while keeping the chest up. Hips and shoulders should rise together. As the bar rises it’s important to keep your feet firmly grounded and your shoulders on top of the bar.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Once the bar reaches the hip, your feet should STILL be flat, shoulders should be on top of the bar, and knees should be bent. You should feel very loaded here as if you’re ready to jump. If you accomplish these fundamentals, a vertical drive will happen naturally. This will certainly improve consistency in the Snatch and fix your bar path!⁣⁣

If you want to lift barbells, you need to know this! Without proper posture and core tension you will not be able to effectively move the barbell in any lift. The core is what transfers forces from the body to the barbell. If you do not maintain good posture and a solid core, then you will be unstable and mute your explosiveness. You have to stay braced through the core to put your full force into the bar and hold good positions for lifting. Posture and core tension is the number one fundamental for lifting weights. IN ALL MOVEMENTS! Learn it, practice it, DO IT!!!⁣
