Duncan Williamson (1928-2007) was known in folk storytelling circles as "Scotland's national treasure." He was born into a community of Scottish Travellers - nomadic tinkers, weavers and pipers - and he collected, shared and sang stories across the world throughout his remarkable life. Details of his early years can be found in his memoir, The Horsieman: Memories of a Traveller 1928-1958.

I crossed Duncan's path in 2004, when he visited Minnesota for a storytelling event. It was one of the great honors of my life to learn from him during his stay, and even to very briefly share the stage with him - along with other tellers - at the Cedar Cultural Center.

This recording of Duncan singing "Bonnie George Campbell" does not belong to me. It is used here merely to try and merge my chosen form of art (animation) with his. I hope he would be honored by the visuals here, but of course, Duncan's voice never needed visual support.
