During the first week of February the state of Georgia hosts a sever weather preparedness event that consists of five days representing different kinds of weather related threats. Usually on the Wednesday of that week there is a tornado drill that occurs at 0900. If the weather outlook is bad this date will be shifted to Friday. This year the state conducted the drill even though the possibility of sever weather later that day was fairly high, however Columbus and maybe a few others decided it wasn't worth the risk to freak the public out and postponed the drill.

This particular siren replaced a 2001-SRN as seen in the rather old and grainy picture. It along with a few other in the system originally had an ESC-864 controller that was upgraded to a 2020 shortly afterwards when the county moved to the Motorola older activation system. It appears that they replaced the entire cabinet, since the conduit in the older picture appears to be coming out of the bottom. It was upgraded to 560 Hz around 2009-ish. The last time I tried to record this siren it failed completely, however if was fixed afterwards and has been working ever since.
