Our Standard—Milton Hershey School

During World War II, Mr. Hershey asked that the Ten Commandments and Golden Rule be placed above the fireplace in every student home. Nearly 80 years later, these foundational elements remain prominent on our campus, reminding us of our core beliefs.

The Golden Rule, deeply valued by our founders, is a fundamental part of Milton Hershey School’s culture. It guides students and staff to live in service to others—always doing unto others, as they would have others do unto you. This principle, which is integrated into The Compass Project curriculum and daily activities, helps students develop strong character, build a sense of community, and prepare for success both inside and outside the classroom.
