When love and displacement collide, what remains of identity? That’s the emotional core of If You See Something, the new drama from Iraqi filmmaker Oday Rasheed, opening in theatres this Friday, October 31. Co-written by Avram Noble Ludwig and Jess Jacobs, the film follows Ali (played by Adam Bakri), an Iraqi doctor seeking asylum in New York, who falls in love with an American art gallerist, Katie (Jacobs). When a crisis unfolds in Baghdad, the couple must confront how global events shape their lives and their sense of belonging.

The film also stars Tarek Bishara, Lucy Owen, Hadi Tabbal, Krystina Alabado, Reggie Gowland, Hend Ayoub, with Nasser Faris and Reed Birney.

In anticipation of the film’s release, Oday Rasheed and Jess Jacobs discuss the personal and collaborative process behind If You See Something—from balancing the political and the emotional to exploring empathy across cultural divides.
