On December 7, 2023 S.C. Legal Services held a virtual event highlighting holiday scams that seniors are especially vulnerable to. SCLS hosted “How to Recognize and Avoid Holiday Fraud, Theft and Scams” as part of our partnership with SC WEAAD, a group of senior service providers as well as government and non-profit organizations. SC WEAAD was launched in 2020 in connection with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) and has grown into an ever expanding group that hosts weekly events in June each year in connection with the group’s flagship event, the WEAAD Walk, sponsored by the S.C. Department of Social Services on June 15. Member organizations like S.C. Legal Services take the lead in sponsoring additional events throughout the year focused on Elder Abuse Awareness.
