The Nose-Horned Viper, Europe's most venomous snake.
There are 15 species of snakes in Croatia.
Three of those fifteen are venomous, but the deadliest is the Nose-Horned Viper.
Latin name for it is Vipera Ammodytes...The Croatian name is "POSKOK".
The hill where the whole video was filmed is named Monte Vipera, and the name is there for a reason.
The most distinctive thing about the nose-horned viper is its horn.
Why it has a horn on the snout is still not fully understood, but it's probably an evolutionary adaptation in the context of camouflage and luring the prey.
This viper feeds on small mammals, lizards, and birds.
It is very territorial and it hunts by ambush.
The venom of the nose-horned viper is hemotoxic, neurotoxic, and proteolytic.
Despite all prejudices, it is a very timid snake and will bite only if cornered.
In most cases, you are not going to see it in the wild because it senses you before you even notice it, and it hides.
But there are also two other main reactions that you are going to see in the video.
However, if you get bitten, you have to contact emergency services, immobilize the limb as if it is broken, and remove any rings or jewelry.
Don't try to cut the wound with a knife. Don't suck the wound. And don't tie a tourniquet above the wound.
