A lot of Maharashtrians like listening to the kirtans of Indurikar Maharaj.

He is one of those people who can give sermons on the lofty ideals in a humorous manner, often interlaced with examples to which his audience can relate. Being gifted with the ability of instantly striking a cord with the audience, his wit and the sense of sarcasm often make him one of the most renowned 'kirtankars'.

He is a sharp critic of the changing dynamics in rapidly urbanizing rural Maharashtra. The nouveau-riche of Maharashtra who have earned their fortunes by selling prime lands near ever-expanding large cities of western Maharashtra, have adopted a very different lifestyle. Their freewheeling splurges are badly affecting the rural youth. Through his kirtans, Indurikar Maharaj attempts to bring these misguided young people back on the positive track.

He touches many social issues in his kirtans. These include: cleanliness in villages, educating the girl child, public shaming the custom of dowry, open defecation etc, to name a few.

Few people accuse him of misogyny when he comments on gender roles, but I believe it is unfair to judge him by the ultra-modern standards of gender equality and we should instead, applaud him for he's come this far, considering the mindset of the people he represents by and large.

That said, if you are looking for deep spiritual insights, you'll be disappointed. He is more of a social reformer than a spiritual teacher. As the other answer suggests, you might want to listen to Shri Charudatta Aphale Bua if spirituality is what interests you.

A lot of Maharashtrians like listening to the kirtans of Indurikar Maharaj, but unfortunately, only for its entertainment value!
